After nearly 20 Years the Iconic Jawa Motorcyles have been resurrected in India by Classic Legend PVT LTD, a subsidiary of Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. Classic Legend Pvt Ltd led by Classic Legend founder Anupam Thareja, Mahinda Group Chairman Anand Mahindra and Rustomjee Group MD Boman Rustom Irani.

After a series of teasers. Classic Legends, a subsidiary of the Mahindra group has launched two, new 300cc motorcycles. One called Jawa and the other is called the Jawa Forty Two. The Jawa resembles the yesteryear's Jawa, down to the shape of the headlamps and tool box cover. The Forty Two, however has been given a more contemporary look to distinguish its self.

These bikes are expected to give Royal Enfield Classic 350 the category favourite a stiff competition.

Engines and Chassis

Jawa 42 is powered by a 293cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine in a double-cradle chassis, generating 27bhp of power and 28Nm of torque. Enfield Classic 350 has a 346cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder twinspark engine nested in a single downtube chassis using the engine as a stressed member. It produces 19.8bhp of power and 28Nm of torque and is mated to a constant mesh five-speed transmission. The compression ratio stands at 8.5:1 with bore and stroke of 70mm x 90mm.

While the Enfield Classic 350 can be kicked or thumbed to a start, the Jawa 42 is electric-start only.

 

Brakes

Jawa 42 comes with a 280 mm disc with a floating caliper and ABS at the front and 153mm drums at the back.

Enfield Classic 350 comes with a 280mm and 153 mm discs at the front and back, respectively.

 

Suspension

The Jawa 42 has telescopic hydraulic forks at the front and twin shock hydraulic with gas canister at the rear.

The Classic 350 also comes with telescopic forks at the front and twin gas charged shock absorbers with five-step adjustable preloads at the rear.

 

Dimensions and Weight

The Jawa 42 measures 1369mm wheel-to-wheel, and is 1165mm tall. It has a kerb weight of 170kg.

The Classic 350 has a wheelbase of 1370mm, height of 1090mm and kerb weight of 192kg.

The Jawa 42 is shod with 18-inch 90/90 tyres at the front and 17-inch 120/80 tyres at the rear.
